At night, all cats are gray

As diferentes visões subjetivas do mundo através de imagens fotográficas, inspiradas pelo provérbio “À noite, todos os gatos são pardos”, foram o ponto de partida para a chamada internacional de artistas que resultou nesta edição especial de postais promovido pela Obscura.

O diálogo entre as diferentes fotografias oferece interpretações dispares da realidade e demonstra a capacidade única que a fotografia possui de nivelar ou camuflar as diferenças visuais entre os temas retratados.

Entre a trama e a ilusão, encontramo-nos diante de um diálogo que conduz o espectador para o lugar do mistério e da percepção da realidade, porque, acima de tudo, sabemos que na escuridão da noite os limites entre a realidade e a ficção dissipam.

Ao percorrer os postais, o olhar atento do espectador revela o que está além do visível enquanto as imagens fotográficas nos fazem refletir sobre a forma como vemos e representamos a realidade. Nas sombras da noite, os gatos tornam-se pardos, e na fotografia, a interpretação subjetiva revela variações ocultas. É neste sentido que destacamos assim a importância de observar além das aparências e questionar a nossa própria percepção da realidade.

The diverse subjective views of the world through photographic images, inspired by the proverb “At night, all cats are gray,” served as the starting point for the international call for artists that resulted in this special edition of postcards promoted by Obscura.

The dialogue between the different photographs offers disparate interpretations of reality and demonstrates  photography´s unique ability to level or camouflage the visual differences among the portrayed subjects.

Between the weave and the illusion, we find ourselves facing a dialogue that leads the viewer to the realm of mystery and perception of reality because, above all, we know that in the darkness of the night, the boundaries between reality and fiction dissipate.

While going through the postcards, the attentive gaze of the viewer reveals what lies beyond the visible, while the photographic images make us reflect on how we see and represent reality. In the shadows of the night, cats become gray, and in photography, subjective interpretation reveals hidden variations. It is in this sense that we emphasize the importance of looking beyond appearances and questioning our own perception of reality.
